Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a world-class comprehensive university located on scenic Penang Island, off the north-western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Due to its distinguished achievements in academic, research and innovation, the university was granted the APEX (Accelerated Programme for Excellence) status in 2008. As an APEX university, USM has continued to spearhead numerous research projects in the country.

Since its establishment in 1969, USM has expanded and now comprises three campuses, with 26 schools, 13 centres of excellence, 3 national higher education centres of excellence, 36 service centres, and 10 hostels on campus to accommodate approximately 32,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. There are 60 programmes offered to international students, covering various fields of studies including science, engineering, medicine, arts, business and literature. USM is unique in that it offers students the freedom to select their minor programmes according to their interest. This has resulted in students having unusual combinations of majors and minors.

At USM, there are numerous facilities such as libraries, medical centres, pharmacies, post office, banks, sport centres, and an art centre. It also provides a shuttle service within the main campus and a free wireless service throughout the whole campus.

To date, there are about 160,000 USM alumni who have made a name for themselves throughout the world.
